Last Updated: November 25, 2021

Date of Arrival: October 25, 2021

Age: 6 yrs old

Breed: Australian Shepard

Size: Approx 41 lbs but he is on a healthy diet with an ideal weight goal of approx. 33lbs

Gender: Male

Adoption Status: We are accepting applications for adoption for Jake

Personality: Jake is a handsome sweet well mannered young man. He is just such a good dog and so full of love and sweetness! He has had great love and training and it is reflected in his beautiful demeanor. Jake does have a "stubborn streak in him" though. When he wants to walk further or go outside and you are not ready, he will let you know that he is not interested in following what you want. He has a very little bark that he also will use to let you know what he wants. The bark is ridiculously cute but a "no Jake" is still required.

House training/Pee Pad Training: Jake is house trained

Walks/leash training: Jake loves going outside and is leash trained. He MUST have daily walks as he works to drop his extra weight and to help keep his joints mobile but he also needs someone sensitive to when it is enough of a walk so that his joints are not injured. Jake will want to keep going but sometimes a stop is a must too.

Children: Jake doesn't really love hanging out with kids. We are looking for a forever home for Jake that is adults only.

Dogs, Cats and Other Friends: Jake is getting along well with the dog in his foster home. He loves barking at the squirrels and talking through the fence with the neighbours dog too.

Best Home Environment: We are seeking a home for Jake where his people are home most of the time. He is very used to being with his person all the time and does not like being left alone. Jake loves walks and a yard where he can wander and burn afew calories too. Thus we are seeking a home with someone who will enjoy walking with Jake and a home with a secure fenced yard. Jake requires a home with carpeting. He is scared of flooring and will not walk on floors. His joints are still stiff and walking on slippery floors is not good for him so no flooring please!

Health: Jake has started his health assessment and is doing well. He has mild tartar on his teeth and will benefit from ongoing daily dental care at home. He has a small growth on his lip that we will have removed shortly. His weight is of concern and his previous owner had met with a nutritionist and Has started Jake on a healthy slow weight loss diet plan which we will continue. He has lost a fair bit but needs to drop more. Jake has some joint health issues that the vet indicates are related to his weight and injury as a puppy. We are starting him on some supplements for joint health to help with this. Further testing may be done if we observe any further concerns - right now we are observing and seeing how joint health and weight loss help him.

History: Jake's story is one that brings tears to all our eyes. He is a dog that has known so much love from a wonderful man who was his person. Sadly, his dad is unable to continue to care for Jake due to a personal health journey that is devastating to Jake, his human dad and all who know and love them. We are so touched that his dad chose to entrust Jake to our rescue. His dad wrote the most beautiful letter, provided mementos for Jake to help ease the transition to a new home and even provided baby pictures of Jake. We wish his dad peace and comfort knowing we love Jake completely and will ensure that only the perfect home for Jake will be Jakes new home. Jake is in a great foster home where he is being loved without limit and our health care team will help ensure Jake is at optimal health.

Adoption Fee: When Jake is ready for adoption, his adoption fee will be $400.
