Last Updated:  April 27, 2024

Date of Arrival:  January 4, 2024

Age:  Approx. 3 years old

Breed:  Chihuahua

Size:  4-5 lbs

Gender:  Male

Adoption Status:  On medical hold (Thadd is currently going through heartworm treatment)

Must Haves: Treats, lots of snuggles and a heating pad!

Personality:  Thaddy is just about the sweetest cuddle dog ever! He loves humans, is great with kids, loves other dogs big and small and just well..... he loves. He is still undergoing his heartworm treatment so is not ready to entertain applicants to be his forever family but says to keep an eye out and soon he will be announcing his recovery and start reviewing his applicants for adoption.

House training/Pee Pad Training:  Thad is doing most of his business outdoors. When his foster mom leaves for longer periods of time, he wears his bellyband. We are expecting this will improve in time and once he's healthy enough to be neutered.

Walks/Leash Training:  TBD

Children:  Thad is good with kids and is currently living with a toddler. That said, only very dog savvy kids should be with a pup this size. He is very dainty.

Dogs, Cats and Other Friends:  Thad is very good with other dogs. He plays very gently with his doggie foster sister.

Best Home Environment:  TBD

Preference will be given to a home with a fully fenced yard.

A note about secure fencing: While each dog is different in the level of security needed, we require the fence be of a height that the dog could not jump over (some of our dogs can easily scale a 5 foot fence), no gaps in fencing, gate is secure, and the bottom of the fence is also free from gaps or areas where a dog could dig out from underneath.

A note about being a flight risk: A flight risks can be the result of many things - fear, lack of "street-wise" skills, or incredible curiosity for the sights, smells, and sounds on the other side of the fence. Any of these reasons could lead to a dog looking to break free of a leash or seek out gaps in fencing so they can move beyond the fence.

We strongly encourage adopters to enroll in a basic obedience course with the dog they adopt. The purpose in such participation is to build trust between human and dog, to help the dog gain confidence and social interaction skills, and build strong recall skills. These things are in addition to the on and off leash skills that basic obedience training can provide.

Health:  Thad is half way through his heartworm treatment and is doing well. He has 2 more months of heavy treatment followed by review of blood work and then we can determine if he is ready to proceed with dental/neuter surgery and adoption. We hope by late summer/early fall he can start looking for his forever home.

History: Thad is an owner surrender.

Adoption Fee: Thad's adoption fee is $450.
