Date of Arrival:  January 4, 2024

Age:  Approx. 3 years old

Breed:  Chihuahua

Size:  4-5 lbs

Gender:  Male

Adoption Status:  On medical hold

Personality:  We are still getting to know Thad but so far he is a very sweet boy, who loves to burrow under blankets. He can be a bit nervous in new situations but is a very friendly little guy.

House training/Pee Pad Training:  Thad is doing some business outside but it's very cold for little pups like him, so he is also wearing a bellyband right now.

Walks/Leash Training:  TBD

Children:  Thad is good with kids and is currently living with a toddler. That said, only very dog savvy kids should be with a pup this size. He is very dainty.

Dogs, Cats and Other Friends:  Thad is very good with other dogs

Best Home Environment:  TBD

Preference will be given to a home with a fully fenced yard.

A note about secure fencing: While each dog is different in the level of security needed, we require the fence be of a height that the dog could not jump over (some of our dogs can easily scale a 5 foot fence), no gaps in fencing, gate is secure, and the bottom of the fence is also free from gaps or areas where a dog could dig out from underneath.

A note about being a flight risk: A flight risks can be the result of many things - fear, lack of "street-wise" skills, or incredible curiosity for the sights, smells, and sounds on the other side of the fence. Any of these reasons could lead to a dog looking to break free of a leash or seek out gaps in fencing so they can move beyond the fence.

We strongly encourage adopters to enroll in a basic obedience course with the dog they adopt. The purpose in such participation is to build trust between human and dog, to help the dog gain confidence and social interaction skills, and build strong recall skills. These things are in addition to the on and off leash skills that basic obedience training can provide.

Health:  Thad has tested positive for heartworm. He will have his liver assessed and then undergo approximately four months of heartworm treatment.

History: Thad is an owner surrender.
