Date of Arrival: July 5, 2022
Age: Approx. 9 yrs old
Breed: Pekingese X
Size: Approx. 11lbs
Adoption Status: Gizmo is on medical hold
Must Haves: Toys and a human to throw (and sometimes retrieve) said toys, a home without children or cats
Personality: Words to describe our little Gizmo: funny, cuddly, sweet, annoying, bratty, kind of a jerk sometimes... But his possibly-less-positive traits are just a part of his quirky personality, and he is worth it!
Gizmo is definitely a 'one-person dog'. He becomes very attached to the person of his choosing, and loves them completely. Whomever that person is, they can pet, cuddle, play with, and groom him. Other people? He will go up to them, sniff, lick, climb in their laps, but if they touch him, he sometimes reacts poorly and may bite. We are seeking a one person household for Gizmo as our ideal or, if there is a second adult in the home, that they understand and respect Gizmo's need for personal space.
House training/Pee Pad Training: Gizmo is housetrained.
Walks/leash training: Gizmo loves walks and car rides and does very well on his leash.
Children: Gizmo cannot go to a home with children. No exceptions.
Dogs, Cats and Other Friends: Gizmo does well with other dogs of all sizes, but isn't a big fan of cats. He does pretty well with correction and is learning not to chase the cats, but his home needs to be feline-free. (His foster mom has had to hold him back a few times when he was determined to make the cats in the house his targets for destruction. So really, we are not kidding ... no cats, please!)
Best Home Environment: Gizmo needs a home where there will be one person who cares for him. He needs someone who will ensure he has rules and boundaries, and will not try to treat him like a baby. Gizmo is not afraid to use his voice, so an apartment would not be a good fit for him.
Health: Gizmo is currently on medical hold.
When Gizmo came to us, he needed to have some cysts surgically removed. His pores get clogged and need to be squeezed out by his human. If this is not done regularly, those spots can develop into cysts, so it's important that Gizmo's human will ensure that the little pimples are taken care of before they are large issues requiring surgical interventions. His human will need to be committed to regular bathing and grooming as well, in order to continue to keep these under control.
Gizmo has a history of seizures. He does not experience them very often, and recovers quickly. He has been on seizure meds in the past, but is not currently taking anything for them.
History: Gizmo is an owner surrender
Adoption Fee: Gizmo's adoption fee is $400.00.
