Age: 4 years old (Born July 21, 2019)
Breed: Shih Tzu
Size: Approx. 12 lbs
Gender: Female
Adoption Status: Adoption pending

Personality: Sadie is a sweetheart! She is smart and let foster mom give her a bath (even though she hates baths!) and she watches foster dad when he is outside and wants to be with him! At this point, she needs to be fed separately from the other pets in the home, as she tries to steal the other dogs' food.
House training/Pee Pad Training: Sadie is doing well with her house training. She has used the pee pads indoors and done her business outdoors. She is learning quickly!
Walks/leash training: Sadie has no experience with leash or walks but we will be providing first steps of training in this shortly.
Children: To be assessed
Dogs, Cats and Other Friends: Sadie is in a home with other dogs and doing well.
Best Home Environment:
Sadie is a breed that will need regular grooming. Her people need to be committed to getting her groomed and keeping her pretty coat healthy.
Sadie will need time and patience to learn to be a relaxed, happy, bonded dog. She is showing a lot of potential, but social and emotional development take a long time. She needs a human who will accept her as she is, and then actively work with her over her lifetime to help her to be the happiest little dog. This will be possible with the right humans, who take things slow, celebrate the small victories, and don't get discouraged when progress takes its time.
Sadie would do well in a home with another dog that she can learn and gain confidence from.
Sadie is a flight risk as she does not have any recall skills. Secure fencing and people who are diligent to ensure her safety is an absolute must.
A note about secure fencing: While each dog is different in the level of security needed, we require the fence be of a height that the dog could not jump over (some of our dogs can easily scale a 5 foot fence), no gaps in fencing, gate is secure, and the bottom of the fence is also free from gaps or areas where a dog could "dig out" from underneath.
A note about being a flight risk: A flight risks can be the result of many things: fear, lack of "street-wise" skills, or incredible curiosity for the sights, smells, and sounds on the other side of a fence. Any of these reasons could lead to a dog looking to break free of a leash or seek out gaps in fencing so they can move beyond the fence.
We strongly encourage adopters to enroll in a basic obedience course with the dog they adopt. The purpose in such participation is to build trust between human and dog, to help the dog gain confidence and social interaction skills, and build strong recall skills. These things are in addition to the on and off leash skills that basic obedience training can provide.
Health: To be assessed
History: Sadie is an owner/breeder surrender
Adoption Fee: Sadie's adoption fee is $450.
