Last Updated:  June 15, 2025

Date of Arrival:  February 26, 2025

Age:  Approx. 3 years old

Breed:  Pomeranian X

Size:  15lbs

Gender:  Male

Adoption Status:  We are accepting applications for Sterling.

Personality:  Sterling is a very sweet boy. He absolutely loves his foster mom, and does seem to have a slight preference for females, but anyone can win him over with time and treats!

House training/Pee Pad Training:  Sterling is doing well with his housetraining. He has marked indoors a few times, but he is doing his business outside.

Walks/Leash Training:  Sterling is working on his leash training. All the new sounds and smells are such a distraction, we can't blame him. It's overwhelming for a small, timid guy!

Children:  Sterling is quite a shy little fellow, but we expect he would be fine with older, dog savvy kids.

Dogs, Cats and Other Friends:  Sterling is getting along well with both his canine and feline foster siblings. He is quite active and plays a bit rough, a dog with a similar play style and energy level would be best. He would love a fur sibling to run around the backyard with.

Best Home Environment:  Sterling will need a home with a very secure yard. He is considered a flight risk. He would be well suited in a family home with older children, a couple or single companion. He will need some time to grow in confidence in his new surroundings.

A note about secure fencing - While each dog is different in the level of security needed, we require the fence be of a height that the dog could not jump over (some of our dogs can easily scale a 5 foot fence), no gaps in fencing, gate is secure, and the bottom of the fence is also free from gaps or areas where a dog could dig out from underneath.

A note about being a flight risk - Flight risk can be the result of many things, including fear, lack of "street-wise" skills, or incredible curiosity for the sights, smells, and sounds on the other side of the fence. Any of these reasons could lead to the dog attempting to break free of their leash or seek out gaps so they can move past the fence.

We strongly encourage adopters to enrol in a basic obedience course with the dog they adopt. Participating in an obedience course can help build trust between human and dog, help the dog gain confidence and social interaction skills, and build strong recall skills, in addition to the on and off leash skills that basic obedience training can provide.

Health:  Sterling has completed his vetting and is a clinically healthy dog.

History:  Sterling was an unclaimed stray who came to us through Winnipeg Animal Services. We thank WAS for entrusting him to our care.

Adoption Fee:  Sterling's adoption fee is $500.
