Date of Arrival: January 20, 2024
Age: Approx. 1 year old
Breed: Pomeranian/Pug X
Size: Approx 10 lbs
Adoption Status: We are not yet accepting applications for Wally
Must Haves: A home with another dog (and preferably a dog-friendly cat or two), no children
Personality: We are just starting to get to know Wally. Right now he is very nervous and somewhat withdrawn; we will get a better idea of what he's like once he starts to feel more comfortable.
House training/Pee Pad Training: Wally is doing great with pee pad training.
Walks/Leash Training: Wally has no experience with a collar or leash yet.
Children: At this point, Wally is not comfortable around kids
Dogs, Cats and Other Friends: Wally absolutely loves the cats in his foster home. He also gets along well with the other dogs too. We are looking for a home for him that has another dog, who can help teach him what life as a pet dog is like.
Best Home Environment: TBD. Preference may be given to a home with a secure fenced yard.
A note about secure fencing: While each dog is different in the level of security needed, we require the fence be of a height that the dog could not jump over (some of our dogs can easily scale a 5 foot fence), no gaps in fencing, gate is secure, and the bottom of the fence is also free from gaps or areas where a dog could dig out from underneath.
A note about being a flight risk: A flight risks can be the result of many things - fear, lack of "street-wise" skills, or incredible curiosity for the sights, smells, and sounds on the other side of the fence. Any of these reasons could lead to a dog looking to break free of a leash or seek out gaps in fencing so they can move beyond the fence.
We strongly encourage adopters to enroll in a basic obedience course with the dog they adopt. The purpose in such participation is to build trust between human and dog, to help the dog gain confidence and social interaction skills, and build strong recall skills. These things are in addition to the on and off leash skills that basic obedience training can provide.
History: Wally is a breeder surrender. The Boston Terrier and Pug Rescue of Southern Manitoba was able to take in a large number of pups, and Wally was entrusted to us through them. We are thankful that we can play a small part in helping a larger group of dogs receive care and find warm, loving, forever homes.
Adoption Fee: Wally's adoption fee is $450
