Date of Arrival:  January 20, 2024

Age:  Approx. 1 year old

Breed:  Pomeranian/Pug X

Size:  Approx. 10 lbs

Gender:  Male

Adoption Status:  We are accepting applications for Wally.

Must Haves: A home with another dog (and preferably a dog-friendly cat or two), and a window to gaze out of! He is also starting to play with toys & is enjoying games of chase with his foster daddy in the backyard!

Personality:  Wally is starting to come out of his shell. Although still nervous, he has begun sneaking up into bed with his foster parents at night and enjoying some mini cuddle sessions. He seems to do best when his people are relaxing; sudden movements are still a little scary for him. We have been enjoying seeing how Wally is slowly bonding with his foster dad. One of their favorite activities is napping together on the couch!

House training/Pee Pad Training:  Wally is doing great with pee pad training.

Walks/Leash Training:  Wally has no experience with a collar or leash yet.

Children:  Wally is not well suited to an active household with young children. He would do best in a home with no kids or dog savvy teens. When kids do come visit his foster home, he hides. We are not overly concerned about this at this point, as he is just learning about trust and confidence.

Dogs, Cats and Other Friends:  Wally absolutely loves the cats in his foster home. He also gets along well with the other dogs. He is in the same foster home as young pup Chico and Wally adores hanging with and wrestling with Chico too. We are looking for a home for Wally with another dog, who can help teach him what life as a pet dog is like. Hint - A person could adopt Chico and Wally together...(!!!)

Best Home Environment:  Wally needs a home with people who understand he is just learning about being a dog in a home with humans. He has no previous experience being a pet in a home, so this is all new and is taking time. He was emotionally shut down when he came to us, and needs people who get this and will help him blossom. He does not need people to look at him as a "poor baby" or to feel sorry for him, but will be confident, patient leaders. Wally needs a home with a calm and confident dog who will be his best buddy and playmate. A securely fenced yard is a non-negotiable. In the future, Wally's continued growth and development will mean having opportunity for daily fun walks, both to burn energy and also to build trust and confidence.

A note about secure fencing: While each dog is different in the level of security needed, we require the fence be of a height that the dog could not jump over (some of our dogs can easily scale a 5 foot fence), no gaps in fencing, gate is secure, and the bottom of the fence is also free from gaps or areas where a dog could dig out from underneath.

A note about being a flight risk: A flight risks can be the result of many things - fear, lack of "street-wise" skills, or incredible curiosity for the sights, smells, and sounds on the other side of the fence. Any of these reasons could lead to a dog looking to break free of a leash or seek out gaps in fencing so they can move beyond the fence.

We strongly encourage adopters to enroll in a basic obedience course with the dog they adopt. The purpose in such participation is to build trust between human and dog, to help the dog gain confidence and social interaction skills, and build strong recall skills. These things are in addition to the on and off leash skills that basic obedience training can provide.

Health:  Wally has completed his vetting and is a healthy dog.

History:  Wally is a breeder surrender. The Boston Terrier and Pug Rescue of Southern Manitoba was able to take in a large number of pups, and Wally was entrusted to us through them. We are thankful that we can play a small part in helping a larger group of dogs receive care and find warm, loving, forever homes.

Adoption Fee:  Wally's adoption fee is $450

Please download our application and follow instructions to apply for any of our dogs in care.

Please note we do not review and process any applications until a dog is ready for adoption.
