Date of Arrival: September 19, 2026
Age: 3
Breed: Maltese X
Size: Approx 10lbs
Gender: Female
Adoption Status: Not yet ready for adoption

Personality: Katie is brand new to us so we will update as we get to know her. So far she is a very sweet but nervous girl. She is starting to come to her foster family for pets!
House training/Pee Pad Training: Katie is pee pad trained and is working hard on going outdoors. The set up in her foster home, makes it a little more challenging for her. (backyard doors are in the basement)
Walks/Leash Training: We don't suspect Katie has had much experience if any with leashes or walking. She is a timid little gal, so you will need to be patient with her. She likes being carried in a doggie sling as well!
Children: Katie is timid, so young, rambunctious children may be too much for her full time. Children should be respectful of her fears and tiny size!
Dogs, Cats and Other Friends: She really likes being around other dogs. Her foster sister is great support to Katie. It would be great for Katie to go to a home with another small dog that doesn't mind being close.

Best Home Environment: A home with a doggie best friend, no young children, and no shared walls. She is not a loud girl but does occasionally bark when her foster mom leaves the room.
Preference may be given to a home with a securely fenced yard.
A note about secure fencing - While each dog is different in the level of security needed, we require the fence be of a height that the dog could not jump over (some of our dogs can easily scale a 5 foot fence), no gaps in fencing, gate is secure, and the bottom of the fence is also free from gaps or areas where a dog could dig out from underneath.
A note about being a flight risk - Flight risk can be the result of many things, including fear, lack of "street-wise" skills, or incredible curiosity for the sights, smells, and sounds on the other side of the fence. Any of these reasons could lead to the dog attempting to break free of their leash or seek out gaps so they can move past the fence.
We strongly encourage adopters to enrol in a basic obedience course with the dog they adopt. Participating in an obedience course can help build trust between human and dog, help the dog gain confidence and social interaction skills, and build strong recall skills, in addition to the on and off leash skills that basic obedience training can provide.
