Clay

Updated: 13 hours ago

Last Updated:  May 26, 2025

Date of Arrival:  May 8, 2025

Age:  Approx. 6 years old

Breed:  Chihuahua

Size:  Approx. 5 lbs

Gender:  Male

Adoption Status:  Clay is not yet available for adoption (pending dental and neuter)

Personality:  Clay is VERY snuggly. There is no such thing as too close for Clay! He would love nothing more than to be with you and ON you! He is a timid guy but friendly and so very loving when he comes out of his shell.

House training/Pee Pad Training:  Clay is working on his housetraining and is using his bellyband at the moment. He is learning to do his business outside by watching what his foster siblings do.

Walks/Leash Training:  Clay hasn't done much walking and probably won't require long walks but does like his fresh air.

Children:  Clay has met kids and has been good with them. That said, he is quite timid so would probably be best in a home with older kids or just adults.

Dogs, Cats and Other Friends:  Clay lives with other dogs and is fine with them. He gets a bit growly when one of his foster siblings bug him, so he'd probably be happy as an only dog.

Best Home Environment:  Clay would do best in a home with someone who would let him have all the cuddles he wants. He'd thrive in a calm and quiet house as an only dog, or at least with dogs who won't bother him too much.

Preference may be given to a home with a securely fenced yard.

A note about secure fencing - While each dog is different in the level of security needed, we require the fence be of a height that the dog could not jump over (some of our dogs can easily scale a 5 foot fence), no gaps in fencing, gate is secure, and the bottom of the fence is also free from gaps or areas where a dog could dig out from underneath.

A note about being a flight risk - Flight risk can be the result of many things, including fear, lack of "street-wise" skills, or incredible curiosity for the sights, smells, and sounds on the other side of the fence. Any of these reasons could lead to the dog attempting to break free of their leash or seek out gaps so they can move past the fence.

We strongly encourage adopters to enrol in a basic obedience course with the dog they adopt. Participating in an obedience course can help build trust between human and dog, help the dog gain confidence and social interaction skills, and build strong recall skills, in addition to the on and off leash skills that basic obedience training can provide.

Health:  Clay has not yet completed his vetting.

History:  Clay came to us through Winnipeg Animal Services. We thank WAS for entrusting Clay to our care.

Adoption Fee:  Clay's adoption fee is $500.
