Queen

Last Updated:  June 2, 2025

Date of Arrival:  May 8, 2025

Age:  Approx. 7 years old

Breed:  Chihuahua

Size:  6lbs

Gender:  Female

Adoption Status:  Queen is not yet available for adoption

Personality:  Our little Queen is a truly a sweetheart. She adores snuggles and despite her small size, Queen is a pretty brave girl. She is cautious around people she doesn't know but warms up quickly.

House training/Pee Pad Training:  Queen is pee pad trained and working on doing her business outside as well.

Walks/Leash Training:  TBD

Children:  We have not had Queen around children. We don't foresee any issues, but due to her small size, we would like to see her in a home with older children/teens, who will understand and respect her size.

Dogs, Cats and Other Friends:  Queen adores her sister Honey. She likes to cuddle with her and groom her. She has been around a few dogs and done well. She is okay with cats, as long as they are dog savvy and don't go running by her - Queen sees that as an invitation to play chase!

Best Home Environment:  Queen prefers a quieter environment, so we are looking for a home without too much regular activity or noise. Queen and Honey are kept in a smaller area in the house when their fosters are not home, but Queen is a bit of an escape artist. She doesn't get into anything or cause any trouble at all, she just seems to like waiting for the humans on the other side of the gate. However, future adopters will want to be aware of this, especially when considering what type of outdoor fenced areas would be suitable for her.

Preference may be given to a home with a securely fenced yard.

A note about secure fencing - While each dog is different in the level of security needed, we require the fence be of a height that the dog could not jump over (some of our dogs can easily scale a 5 foot fence), no gaps in fencing, gate is secure, and the bottom of the fence is also free from gaps or areas where a dog could dig out from underneath.

A note about being a flight risk - Flight risk can be the result of many things, including fear, lack of "street-wise" skills, or incredible curiosity for the sights, smells, and sounds on the other side of the fence. Any of these reasons could lead to the dog attempting to break free of their leash or seek out gaps so they can move past the fence.

We strongly encourage adopters to enrol in a basic obedience course with the dog they adopt. Participating in an obedience course can help build trust between human and dog, help the dog gain confidence and social interaction skills, and build strong recall skills, in addition to the on and off leash skills that basic obedience training can provide.

Health:  Queen has not yet completed her vetting. She has a collapsed trachea and an elongated palate, both of which create some breathing concerns for her.

History:  Queen came to us through Winnipeg Animal Services. We thank WAS for entrusting Queen to our care.

Adoption Fee:  Queen's adoption fee is $500
