Personality:  Saul is a little lover. His foster mom said his name should be Mr. Happy. He wants to be near his people and wants scratches! New situations and people are a touch scary for him but he warms up quickly. He was rescued from a less than ideal environment, so we'd say he's making excellent progress. He's on his way to being a brave little boy! He can even sit and shake a paw. He loves carrots, apples and frozen yogurt. What a yummy diet!

House training/Pee Pad Training:  Saul is housetrained. He will scurry around the door to go out.

Walks/Leash Training:  He pulls on walks, but he's still young and learning.

Children:  Saul is still working on his confidence. Children should be gentle and respect his space at first, so that he doesn't get scared. He will come around once he feels safe and then its all fun and games!

Dogs, Cats and Other Friends:  Saul gets along with his youthful foster brother. They like to run and chase each other in the backyard. His older brother tolerates him but isn't overly joyed with Saul's energy. (Leave my moley alone dude!) It would be best for Saul to have a home with dogs of similar age and energy in his forever home. He has done well with the cats as long as the cats aren't enticing him to a game of tag!

Best Home Environment:  Saul loves to play fetch. He would love an active home/family to play with him. He loves toys. A fun fur sibling would be a bonus as well. He's not a big fan of car rides right now, so if you do a lot of traveling he may not be the best fit. Although this would probably get better with time. He does use his voice, not excessively, but shared walls would not be the best suited home for him.

Preference may be given to a home with a securely fenced yard.

A note about secure fencing - While each dog is different in the level of security needed, we require the fence be of a height that the dog could not jump over (some of our dogs can easily scale a 5 foot fence), no gaps in fencing, gate is secure, and the bottom of the fence is also free from gaps or areas where a dog could dig out from underneath.

A note about being a flight risk - Flight risk can be the result of many things, including fear, lack of "street-wise" skills, or incredible curiosity for the sights, smells, and sounds on the other side of the fence. Any of these reasons could lead to the dog attempting to break free of their leash or seek out gaps so they can move past the fence.

We strongly encourage adopters to enrol in a basic obedience course with the dog they adopt. Participating in an obedience course can help build trust between human and dog, help the dog gain confidence and social interaction skills, and build strong recall skills, in addition to the on and off leash skills that basic obedience training can provide.
